“Amazing Adaptations”


Andrew Rossiter, Ph.D. joined the Waikiki Aquarium in 2004 as director, where he oversees exhibit development, research and conservation as well as directs education, outreach and academic affairs. Rossiter has more than 20 years of experience as a scientist, educator and administrator. Prior to joining the Waikiki Aquarium, he served as senior research scientist at Lake Biwa Museum, the second largest and most-visited natural history museum and largest freshwater public aquarium in Japan.
 
Before that, he served as an associate professor at Ehime University of Japan and headed a sturgeon-oriented project in Canada. Rossiter has co-authored three scientific books including “Animal Societies” and “Ancient Lakes: Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution.” He has a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from the University College of Cardiff, Wales and a doctorate in Aquatic Organismal Ecology from the University of North Wales, U.K.

Lani Starkey, JD, LLM, CPA is an associate vice president, estate and gift planning and principal gifts, at the UH Foundation. A nationally recognized charitable tax planning expert, Lani frequently speaks at national, regional and local conferences, and he has authored articles in respected journals, newspapers and newsletters. Finally, Lani is an adjunct professor at the Shidler College of Business at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.
 
Lani has strong ties to Hawai‘i and the UH. Lani spent part of his childhood growing up on the Kohala Coast of the Big Island. In addition, Lani's father earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from UH Mānoa, and his sister earned a bachelor's degree from UH Mānoa. Furthermore, Lani’s father is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Hawai‘i Center in West Hawai‘i.
