The Waikīkī Aquarium aims to “inspire and promote understanding, appreciation, and conservation of Pacific marine life.” More than 300 wonderful volunteers help to make this mission a reality. These special people, diverse in age, background, and experience, are eager to learn more about Hawaii’s marine environment and how they can share this knowledge with others. Whether you are a professional or a homemaker, retired or work full-time, a teacher or a student, the Aquarium needs your skills and talents.

The 2018 Teen Interpreter Program Application is now OPEN!

Looking for a fun and educational opportunity for your teen this summer?
For the last four years, the Aquarium has offered its Teen Interpreter Program. Students age 14 – 17 have the chance to learn about Hawaiian marine life and share that knowledge by interacting with visitors from around the world who come to the Aquarium.

Program Dates for 2018:

Interested applicants must be available for at least one shift on ​Tuesday, ​Wednesday or Thursday mornings OR ​Tuesday, ​Wednesday​, or Thursday​ afternoons for the entire month of July. All students must be in or entering high school in Fall 2018.

Applicants will be selected and notified by the second week in June 2018.
When filling out the application you must select which times you will be available during the month of July.

  • In general, prospective volunteers must:
    • Be at least 18 years old (Exceptions: Teen Programs, Beach and Algae Clean-Ups)
    • Complete the required online Volunteer Application
    • Pass a criminal background check
    • Meet in-person with Volunteer Program staff
    • Be able to make the necessary time commitment. Most programs require at least a 3 or 6-month commitment.
